Rumors of Rey Mysterio Giving His Notice

Dave Meltzer is reporting that Rey Mysterio was not at the WWE's TV tapings this week. According to Meltzer, the word going around backstage is that he gave notice and is leaving the company. However, this story has not been confirmed yet and therefore it remains only a rumor. Mysterio is currently still on the lineups for this weekend's house shows.

Im just basing this blog off that report, which I believe was taken from the newest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

If Rey DID give his notice, I have to say that I won't be sorely dissapointed. The guy can have good matches depending on who he is wrestling (Bourne, Jericho, Edge, Triple H), but I dont think losing him will do much harm to the WWE, outside of the Latino market Smackdown! gets. Smackdown! will lose another top face, though, and they really cant afford that with Jeff Hardy apparently wanting some time off. That would leave the top face scene to Punk (for now), Undertaker (when he is around), and John Morrison. So actually, it WOULD be a nice kick to the shins for Smackdown! if Rey did leave.

The guy has always been, for the most part (give or take a couple years where he wasnt at the top of his game), a great fast paced wrestler and he is a great merch pusher for the WWE. The feud with Jericho has been quite good, though I could do with less Rey promos.

Another reason why Rey may have not been at the tapings is to possibly sell Jericho having stole his mask at Extreme Rules, or maybe some nagging injuries, or something as simple as that. I just wanted to address the current rumor as it stands now. If any more information becomes available I will definitely write a followup post.
