Update on Batistas Injury
>> June 9, 2009
According to WWE.com, Batista will be going in for surgery on his right bicep. This means he will be out of action for four months.
On one hand, it's never a good thing to see a guy go down with an injury, no matter how much you may hate him. Wishing an injury on a wrestler is a horrible thing.
But on the other hand, I can't help but be glad that Batista won't be on television. I admit, when he returned on RAW as Vince McMahons replacement for the Backlash Six Man Tag (Legacy vs Triple H, Shane McMahon, and Batista), I was shocked and actually glad to see the big man back. That buzz wore off rather quickly, though.
The problem I find with the guy is that while he does get good crowd reactions, his character is just stale. He has one of two modes: calm and cool sunglass wearing Champ, or "rawr me want title!" His face run is just getting boring because there is just so many times you can see the guy get upset and Batista Bomb a heel before it just gets to being the same old stuff all the time. The guy is a good performer when he isn't on the shelf, but he needs a new act quick.
I wouldn't even suggest a full fledged heel turn. If I may fantasy book for a moment, I definitely wouldnt mind seeing Batista return from injury to continue gunning after Orton, but not to help Triple H out (IF Triple H and Orton are still feuding by then, which hopefully they wont be). Have Batista not care about anyone but himself, i.e. become a tweener. Don't have him go out there and beat up just the heels. If a face gets in his way, have Batista rain down a shitstorm on them with Batista Bombs, too. It isn't a major change, but it could be just enough to put some interest in the guy. Or DO a full heel turn. Have him return from injury only to go after Triple H. Turn it into the complete opposite of their 2005 feud: Batista as the angry heel who believes Triple H just returned to take his spot and Triple H as the face. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing that, especially if it meant seeing Batista be more heelish in his assaults on a face.
That is what I believe it would take to make me interested in Batista again, because right now I have no desire to see him come back and get involved in the title picture. It is either change his alignment a bit and make him either a full heel or a tweener that just cares about himself, or let the guy go.
Crazy idea? I really wouldn't think so. The WWE let go Kurt Angle when he was one of the top guys in the company, so I can see them releasing someone who is as injury prone as Mr. Kennedy (blog soon to follow), but wasting more of the WWEs money by never being around enough to make up for it with PPV buys or anything.
I do wish Batista a speedy recovery, though. As much as I dont want to see him return to TV, I also dont want him to suffer with an injury either.
